What is Original Strength?

Taken (with permission) from the Original Strength work shop manual….

Original Strength is a movement restoration system. When a person moves the way they were designed to move, their body functions optimally, for them, given the body they have.

There are four core tenets of “OS”

  1. The body was made to move well and be strong - always.

  2. the body was designed to heal itself

  3. The body was preprogrammed with the movement patterns it needs to stay strong and repair itself.

  4. Restoration starts where the person is. However they are, whatever state they are in, restoration starts from there.

OS is not a movement correction system.

  • The body moves the way the nervous system tells it to based off the information the brain is receiving from the body.

  • The better the information is that travels to the brain, the better the output is that is received from the brain.

  • If we want the body to move and function optimally, we have to feed the brain with as much good information as possible.

How does this work?

We return to the original movement template that is preprogrammed inside every individuals’s nervous system. The original operating program (or code) contains the foundational movements all other expressions are built upon; physical. mental and emotional expressions. Everything about an individual is intimately woven together, and there is nothing about a person that is not effected by the way they move.

By returning to the original movements we were all designed to make, we begin supplying the brain with the rich, nutritional information it needs to restore and strengthen the nervous system, as well as optimizing the body’s expression of movement, thought and emotion.

We start from good.

Any movement is good. If movement can be made, change can take place. Every individual has their won starting point. They have their own physical history, their own structure, their own current limitations and capabilities. In OS, everyone starts with “good” movement. From there, we begin Pressing RESET and we move to “better” and eventually to “best.” “Best” would be optimal movement for that person given their body and the history it contains. There is no bad movement. How a person moves is simply a reflection of the state of their nervous system. If we want to change the reflection, we simply take what the person can do and Press RESET from that starting point.

Pressing RESET

What does this mean? Simply, it is engaging in the original operation system, or the original movement template preprogrammed inside every person’s nervous system. It is very much like pressing the RESET button on a video game or rebooting a computer. When we engage in the original movement template, it reboots (refreshes) the central nervous system, providing much needed information to the brain. What results is quite miraculous. the brain builds new neural connections, restores old ones, and makes existing ones more efficient. The result is a healthier brain and nervous system, which leads to a healthier body able to express the mobility , stability and strength it is designed for.

How long does it take to see results?

In some instances, this RESET and the change it creates can be physically expressed immediately, depending on the individual and the state of their nervous system. In others, the expression of change may take more time, as in days or weeks. Regardless of the speed of the expression, change happens at the instant the RESET is made - at the speed of the nervous system.
